Creation of the Jadavpur University Alumni Association UK Chapter

During the period of 1991 a number of enthusiastic ex-students of Jadavpur University, to name a few late Parimal Bhattacharya, Anil Mitra, Mani Nandy, Jiben Bhattacharya, Bimal Biswaschoudhury, Diptikumar Ghosh, Sm. Sabitri Ray etc. living mostly in and around London, gathered together to form an Association of Jadavpurian group in UK, to meet socially amongst themselves and to keep the spirit of Jadavpur University alive in this country. Following that meeting an ad hoc committee was formed, coordinated by Mani Nandy to organize a Reunion for the ex-student of Jadavpur University, every year residing in the UK. The association was formally named as Jadavpur University Alumni Association-UK Chapter.

The First Annual Reunion was organized on September 1992. A formal committee was formed headed by Mani Nandy as secretary and with the blessings of revered late Dr. T. Sen, founder of JU and the then Vice-Chancellor of JU. Since then it continued to grow until 1995 when the momentum was at its peak.

On May 1997 a meeting was arranged at the residence of Neil Sarkar in Weybridge, Surrey with a view to discussing the problems and the possibility to regain the momentum of the Association. Members present discussed the problems and agreed the actions needed for continuation of the association.

An ad-hoc committee was formed again to draft a formal constitution and entrusted with the responsibility to approve the constitution by the registered members in annual general meeting. The constitution was passed in the year 1997/98.  Accordingly the registered members attending the AGM will elect the executive committee every year comprising Chair Person, General Secretary, Jt Secretary, Treasurer, Cultural Secretary, with a provision of six committee members. From the year 1997 till now the members are celebrating their annual reunion and holding annual general meeting successfully.
